Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Automatic Review - autoX

Maruti Suzuki is the most successful carmaker in the country, and it with great success comes a great responsibility. Now the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a double edged sword for the Indian carmaker, there are immense expectations from this car reason being the success of the pre-facelift model and how the competition has also stepped up their game and made things a little too hard for Maruti Suzuki. So without further-a-do let’s begin with our Ciaz Automatic review.

The Ciaz comes as a fresh design with some little updates over the pre-facelift model. The front end now gets a new grille, full LED automatic headlamps, LED fog lamps and loads of chrome. Come to the side and the only difference here are the new 16-inch machine cut alloy wheels look absolutely amazing. The rear LED tail lamps are a nice touch, what we didn’t like in the rear were the plastic inserts in the bumper, which now comes surrounded with chrome.

The interior gets some upgrades as well – as for the cabin, the car comes with the same leatherette upholstery and a leather wrapped steering wheel, the dark wooden finish has been replaced by a lighter wood which Maruti refers to as birche blonde finish. The instrument cluster is the main highlight in the interior, it gets a new 4.2 inch colored TFT display from the Baleno which now displays a ton of important information and even the Hybrid battery system. The steering wheel now sees the addition of cruise control which was missing on the earlier model. The space inside the cabin remains unchanged and Ciaz is still the most spacious car in its segment. On the safety front, the Ciaz gets two airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard. The automatic gets ESP, traction control and Hill hold assist as an extra over the manual.

The biggest change in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is obviously the new K15B motor, the 1462cc engine combined with the Smart Hybrid system claims a fuel economy of 21.56km/l which is just unbeatable for this segment. While we were impressed by the performance of the 5 speed manual, the 4 speed torque converter automatic is a bit of a mixed bag. The performance in city is good, although the shifts are slow but once you are on the highway, the gearbox struggles with power delivery and the engine feels stretched. The option of manual control could have been better.

The ride and handling of the Ciaz has always been impressive and the suspension soaks up all the road undulations with ease. The steering still just doesn’t weigh up which is a sore point for all the newer Marutis. Overall, the Ciaz is a good package, it gets all the features essential features and it undercuts its rivals by a good margin.
